Created by: Evalyn Parry and Laakkuluk Williamson Bathory
Directed by: Erin Brubacker

A concert and a conversation, Kiinalik: These Sharp Tools is the meeting place of two people, and the North and South of our country. Inuk artist Laakkuluk Williamson Bathory and queer theatre-maker Evalyn Parry met on an Arctic expedition from Iqaluit to Greenland. Now sharing a stage, these two powerful storytellers map new territory together in a work that gives voice and body to the histories, culture, and climate weve inherited, and asks how we reckon with these sharp tools.

A man earns. However little, however nefariously, he earns. Oba is holding on to the last threads of his old life and is determined to maintain what he can by any means necessary. Cake is a story about the things we use, how we are used, and what happens when we are all used up. Written by Governor Generals Award nominee DM St. Bernard the play is a stark and poetic musing on the nature of survival. Cake is a part of the 54ology: St Bernards commitment to create one performance work drawn from each country in Africa. The show is written in reference to Nigers uranium mining.

For years Zaya has balanced his relationships with his religion and his queer identity. Written by Bilal Baig, and directed by Brendan Healy, Acha Bacha boldly explores the intersections between queerness, gender identity and Islamic culture in the Pakistani diaspora. A Pandemic Theatre and b current performing arts Co-Production with the support of Theatre Passe Muraille.

Written & Performed by: Jivesh Parasram
Directed by: Tom Arthur Davis
Dramaturgy by: Graham Isador

"This is the story of how I once birthed a cowkinda...." Jivesh is Canadian. And Indian. And Hindu. And West Indian. Trinidadian too. Or maybe hes just colonized. In Take d Milk, Nah? Parasram blends personal storytelling and ritual to walk an audience through the Hin-dos and Hin-donts at the intersections of these cultures. The show is a refreshingly candid and delightfully funny look at race, religion and nationalism(s): What divides us and what were willing to accept in the desire to belong. Oh, and theres a cow.

2018 is Theatre Passe Murailles 50th Anniversary and there is much to celebrate. Preparing for this big occasion we are launching the Dollar A Week Campaign.

We want to raise $100,000 before 2018. This ambition is inspired by TPMs 50th Anniversary coming up in 2018. Asking the equivalent of A Dollar A Week ($52 per year) from you to recognize our 50 years of developing new work seems like a perfect fit.

Learn about more ways to support TPM, please email Lada Darewych at ladad (at) passemuraille.on.ca or call 416-504-8988 x2133

SUFFRAGETTE

By. Dame Ethel Smyth

Not many composers can claim that their work directly affected the rights and freedoms of millions of people. While Dame Ethel Smyth's name may not be known to many even within the classical music sphere, her contributions as an ardent supporter of the suffragette movement in England and her achievements as a woman composer at the turn of the century helped empower and pave the way for many women to demand equal rights and opportunities.

For its fifth season, independent opera company Opera 5 will present "Suffragette" - a double bill of operas by Dame Ethel Smyth. The evening will showcase the range of Smyth's work with O5 flair featuring "Fête Galante" and the feminist opera "The Boatswain's Mate." Accompanied by a chamber orchestra performing composer-original reductions edited by Valerie Langfield and featuring amazing Canadian talent, this show will challenge perceptions of gender in opera.

The Band will be joined again this year at Glenn Gould Studio by audience favorites, vocalist Danielle Bourre and Pipers and Drummers of the 48th Highlanders of Canada.
