2018 is Theatre Passe Murailles 50th Anniversary and there is much to celebrate. Preparing for this big occasion we are launching the Dollar A Week Campaign.

We want to raise $100,000 before 2018. This ambition is inspired by TPMs 50th Anniversary coming up in 2018. Asking the equivalent of A Dollar A Week ($52 per year) from you to recognize our 50 years of developing new work seems like a perfect fit.

Learn about more ways to support TPM, please email Lada Darewych at ladad (at) passemuraille.on.ca or call 416-504-8988 x2133

"A charismatic celebration of what it means to be human, including what it means to pick yourself up after an epic fail." Mooney on Theatre

4/5 STARS "Katherine Cullen is disarmingly goofy and self-deprecating in Stupidhead!, a semi-musical account of her struggles with dyslexia." Torontoist

Stupidhead! is about the glamour of failure and the celebration of futility. About being a kid with a lot of dyslexia and not being able to fit in. It's about how being a human is really embarrassing. All of the time.

Stupidhead! is personal, chaotic, honest and funny. Part stand-up comedy, part musical comedy, it comes complete with original songs by Katherine Cullen and Britta Johnson and most wonderfully, a piata in the shape of a brain.

A Theatre Passe Muraille Production

An outspoken emcee finds that free speech comes with caveats.

ialli spits rhymes from the underground, relentlessly challenging poverty, oppression and bad dancing. When her attacks become more specific, inspired by rising tensions in the community, she learns that the powers-that-be have been listening, and that the police do not take kindly to criticism.

Sound of the Beast is a long-form narrative spoken word performance inspired by Tunisian hip-hop emcee Weld-El 15, who was jailed for his song, Boulicia Kleb (The Police Are Dogs). From this impetus, TPM Resident emcee Donna-Michelle St. Bernard digs down into"the need to speak" vs "the fear of hearing". Through the lens of her own personal experiences with police and performance, Sound of the Beast explores censorship, brutality, the artists social responsibility, and abuse of authority.

Sound of the Beast is a part of the 54ology: Donna-Michelles commitment to create one performance work drawn from each country in Africa.

Tickets are available through this website until 4 hours prior to performance. Tickets may be available at the Theatre Passe Muraille Box Office 4 Hours prior to performance. To find out more information, please call ARTS BOX OFFICE at 416.504.7529.

All tickets will be held at Theatre Passe Muraille, 16 Ryerson Ave for pickup.

The Good Doctor Holmes & His Children of God

An New Play By: Julian R. Munds

In 1894 the bodies of two little girls were discovered in a Toronto basement by an eccentric, mild mannered, private detective. This was the beginning of a nightmare.

Julian R. Munds' new play puts us in touch with one of the most prolific serial killers in history: Dr. Henry Howard Holmes. Holmes, a doctor, pharmacist, sometimes cannibal, constructed a hotel in Chicago for a singular purpose: to destroy human life. Charged in the deaths of nine individuals, Dr. H. H. Holmes is thought to be connected with more than two hundred disappearances during the Chicago World's Fair of 1893.

In "The Good Doctor Holmes..", Munds takes us into the interrogation room, puts HH at the forefront, in all his genius and all his horror, and weaves a labyrinthine fantasia that is sometimes an episode of Columbo and sometimes a tale by H.P. Lovecraft.

"We are asked to look into the eyes of the devil but what is found there is not what we expected." - The Actor's Podcast

With aid from the Quantico Behavioural Archive, personal journals of Carrie Pitezel, and using a modern perspective, this show drags one of the forgotten cases of Toronto The Goods past from the shadows, and makes one realize they dont have to look far to find modern headlines.

Tickets are $30.00 (27.50 +$2.50 service fee) online, or Pay What You Can at the door (suggested minimum $20.00).

SUFFRAGETTE

By. Dame Ethel Smyth

Not many composers can claim that their work directly affected the rights and freedoms of millions of people. While Dame Ethel Smyth's name may not be known to many even within the classical music sphere, her contributions as an ardent supporter of the suffragette movement in England and her achievements as a woman composer at the turn of the century helped empower and pave the way for many women to demand equal rights and opportunities.

For its fifth season, independent opera company Opera 5 will present "Suffragette" - a double bill of operas by Dame Ethel Smyth. The evening will showcase the range of Smyth's work with O5 flair featuring "Fête Galante" and the feminist opera "The Boatswain's Mate." Accompanied by a chamber orchestra performing composer-original reductions edited by Valerie Langfield and featuring amazing Canadian talent, this show will challenge perceptions of gender in opera.
