"A man earns. However little, however nefariously, he earns." Oba is holding on to the last threads of his old life and is determined to maintain what he can by any means necessary. Cake is a story about the things we use, how we are used, and what happens when we are all used up. Written by Governor General's Award nominee DM St. Bernard the play is a stark and poetic musing on the nature of survival. Cake is a part of the 54ology: St Bernards commitment to create one performance work drawn from each country in Africa. The show is written in reference to Nigers uranium mining.

Co-Produced by Theatre Passe Muraille and Buddies in Bad Times Theatre.

Written by: Bilal Baig
Directed by: Brendan Healy

For years Zaya has balanced his relationships with his religion and his queer identity. But as secrets from the past reveal themselves, and crisis strikes his family, he is torn between loyalties, culture, and time. Written by Bilal Baig, and directed by Brendan Healy, Acha Bacha boldly explores the intersections between queerness, gender identity and Islamic culture in the Pakistani diaspora. It is a show about the way we love, the way we are loved, and how sometimes love is not enough.

Apr 10-22, 2018

A Pandemic Theatre and b current performing arts Co-Production with the support of Theatre Passe Muraille.

Written & Performed by: Jivesh Parasram
Directed by: Tom Arthur Davis
Dramaturgy by: Graham Isador

"This is the story of how I once birthed a cow...kinda..." Jivesh is Canadian. And Indian. And Hindu. And West Indian. Trinidadian too. Or maybe hes just colonized. In Take d Milk, Nah? Parasram blends personal storytelling and ritual to walk an audience through the Hin-dos and Hin-donts at the intersections of these cultures. The show is a refreshingly candid and delightfully funny look at race, religion and nationalism(s): What divides us and what were willing to accept in the desire to belong. Oh, and there's a cow.

Welcome to Eds room at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, the best place to drink, smoke, and live large. Go down the palliative lens into one mans battle to be dead and the inability of his family to assist him. A provocative and entertaining look at male depression, medically assisted dying, and how the men in our lives create their identity. What would you do if you asked for help and never received any? How do you ask someone to help you die? Would you pull the plug for someone? Inspired by true events.

2018 is Theatre Passe Murailles 50th Anniversary and there is much to celebrate. Preparing for this big occasion we are launching the Dollar A Week Campaign.

We want to raise $100,000 before 2018. This ambition is inspired by TPMs 50th Anniversary coming up in 2018. Asking the equivalent of A Dollar A Week ($52 per year) from you to recognize our 50 years of developing new work seems like a perfect fit.

Learn about more ways to support TPM, please email Lada Darewych at ladad (at) passemuraille.on.ca or call 416-504-8988 x2133

The Hungriest Woman in the World

Emerging theatre collective Pencil Kit Productions premiers The Hungriest Woman in the World by Canadian poet and playwright Shannon Bramer, who comes into this production hot off the September release of her most recent book of poetry, Precious Energy. (Shannon Bramer writes with a candor that is as clever as it is devastating...drawing the domestic into utter sublimity. -Robin Richardson).

The Hungriest Woman in the World is a curious navigation of futility and meaning fuelled by a woman who inadvertently escapes from the confused loneliness of her real life into an audacious, seductive world of theatre and art. The production follows Aimee, who goes to see a play alone when her husband Rob refuses to join her. Her evening at the theatre tumbles into absurdity with dancing octopuses, overly intimate strangers and drunken mistakes.

Each performance of The Hungriest Woman in the World will be preceded by ten-minute play Paul and Petandra by Deanna Kruger. Paul and Petandra first premiered at the the 2016 InspiraTO Festival, where it received a Peoples Choice Award and was featured in the Tomo Suru Players About Love Festival in Vancouver this past June.
